I’m Josh, owner of Lexiar Homes.
If I ever run my own company, this is exactly what I won’t do.
I grew up in Calgary, and some of my earliest memories are being on job sites with my dad. He’s a master electrician, so I spent a lot of time around new-home construction without really realizing what it would turn into later.
I liked seeing how things came together. A house would start as a frame, then slowly turn into somewhere a family would live. That always stuck with me. I went through the Construction Management program at SAIT for the technical foundation, but most of what shaped me came after — out in the field working for another builder.
That experience changed everything. I saw what happens when things are done right. I also saw what happens when they’re not.
One home stood out. Proper spray-foam insulation was skipped on a flat roof to save cost. A year later the homeowner had drainage issues that turned into a major, expensive problem. What made it worse wasn’t just the mistake — it was the silence after. The client kept reaching out. Nobody called back. No communication. No accountability. That bothered me more than the mistake itself.
That experience pushed me to start Lexiar Homes in 2017.
From day one I built it around the idea that the client experience matters just as much as the final product. You’re not just hiring someone to build a house. You’re trusting them with a massive investment and a big part of your life.
So we do things differently. We don’t cut corners on things people can’t see, because those are usually the ones that cause the biggest problems later. We don’t disappear when something goes wrong — that’s when communication matters most.
Every client we work with gets access to a dedicated portal where they can track progress, see updates, and submit questions or warranty requests. Everything is documented. Nothing gets lost. If you reach out, you hear back. Simple as that.
We’ve now completed more than 30 projects, but one stands out — a custom home in West Hillhurst that started as a spec build and became something entirely different at the drywall stage. The client walked in, wanted the second-floor layout completely reworked, and most builders would have said no. We took it on. Delivered a 3,200 sq ft custom home that set a new standard for the area — and, more importantly, gave the family exactly what they wanted.
That’s what matters. This business is long-term for me. I’m not here to build as many homes as possible. I’m here to build them the right way, work with good people, and stand behind what I put my name on years from now.
We don't cut corners. Not on structure, not on materials, not on the parts you'll never see. If something isn't done right, we redo it. The biggest problems in a home come from shortcuts behind the walls.
No lying. No hiding mistakes. If something goes wrong, we tell you and we fix it. You're trusting us with a major investment, and that only works if you know you're getting the truth.
If you reach out, you hear back. Everything is tracked through your client portal so nothing gets missed. Most frustration in construction comes from silence. We don't operate that way.
Every project meets the Lexiar standard. We follow proper protocols, take the time needed to do things right, and we won't take on work that forces us to cut corners.
No Surprise Cost Guarantee. You'll receive a detailed, itemized budget before construction begins. Any changes are approved in writing before we proceed. If we miss something due to our error, we cover it.
On-Time Commitment. You'll get a clear construction schedule before we begin. If delays happen within our control and aren't communicated, we credit $100 per business day.
No Shortcuts Guarantee. If something isn't built to proper standards or agreed specifications, we fix it at our cost. No shortcuts, no excuses.
Built Right or We Make It Right. If anything fails due to workmanship within the warranty period, we fix it properly. Not patched, not delayed.
